Is It “Budget Travel” If I Just Couchsurf at My Mom’s House Again? (Asking for a Friend)
Okay, clearly my bank account didn’t get the memo that it’s almost spring break. Everyone around me is flashing those “wine in Santorini” Instagram filters, while my wallet is just flashing insufficient funds. So, honest question to all you thrifty travel wizards-where’s an actual CHEAP place to go for spring break that isn’t also everyone else’s idea of a bargain (looking at you, overrun hostels in Cancun)?
I’m talking destinations where a night out doesn’t require sacrificing my next month’s groceries. And before anyone suggests another week at my mom’s house “because family is free,” yes, I’ve already eaten all her snacks and I’m running out of Netflix excuses.
Bonus points for weird, under-the-radar places. Extra bonus points if I can brag about it afterwards while secretly knowing the whole trip cost less than a Starbucks habit. Budget airlines, sleeper buses, tent-in-the-park solutions-bring ‘em on, but no “don’t travel, just daydream at home” suggestions please. I’ve already done that too (my passport is developing abandonment issues).
Where are your real, hilariously cheap but still fun spring break wins?
